Barbara Allen Burke is the Director of I Am Story Studios, and has worked as a writer, teacher, and counselor.  She is the co-author (along with Elizabeth Taylor) of Half Past Perfect: Writing Simple, Personal Stories to “Re-Story” Your Life, and its companion notebook, Story Starters.

The purpose of this blog is to explore one idea:  Stories are powerful.

How powerful?  Stories can …

  • Heal
  • Clarify what we think and believe
  • Entertain
  • Teach
  • Alter or improve brain function
  • Validate our experience
  • Identify what is meaningful to us
  • Inspire
  • Create Community
  • Focus Attention

Pulling ideas from such diverse fields as neuroscience and memory, organizational storytelling, poetry, painting and collage, narrative therapy, memoir, and the occasional comic strip, we will explore how the power of story can affect daily life.
